Cowley County Sheriff’s Reports for December 7 – 8, 2011

DECEMBER 7

Deputies were dispatched to the 19000 block of 51st Rd. regarding the theft of copper wiring from in active electric transformers owned by Winfield Electric Department at a natural gas pumping station owned by Cimarron Transport.

A miscellaneous dog complaint was taken in the 21000 block of 172nd Rd.

Deputies attempted to stop a vehicle for a stop sign violation at 12th and K-360, Winfield, but the driver ignored the emergency lights and siren and continued until stopping at a traffic light at K-360 and South Main. It was determined the driver was distracted by other things inside the car and was not paying attention to her driving she was cited for the original violation and was released.

A property dispute was investigated in the 12000 block of 296th Rd.

Deputies assisted a funeral procession proceeding from miles Funeral Service to the Burden Cemetery.

Udall Police officers were assisted by deputies with a child in need of care case.

An abandoned vehicle was checked in the 3000 block of K-15.

A prisoner was transported to the Cowley County jail for the Ark City Police Department.

Elijah Tempelaar, rural Ark City, was arrested on an Ark City Municipal Court warrant for failure to appear and for theft in a case being investigated by Ark City Police officers.

DECEMBER 8

Ark City Fire Department and deputies responded to a report of smoke inside a residence in the 6000 block of 314th Drive.

A motorist with a flat tire was assisted by deputies in the 5000 block of K-15.

A burglary and theft regarding a radiator and 40 gallons of gas taken from a vehicle was reported in the 9000 block of 82nd Rd.

Deputies received information about possible poaching in the 13000 block of 196th Rd. The information was given to a Kansas Wildlife and Parks officer.

A lost or stolen license plate registration decal was reported in the 31000 block of 41st Rd.

A dog that had been shot was reported in the 2000 block of 23rd St.

Sheriff’s deputies received a call from a subject in Derby who reported he had received a call from a subject identifying himself as an officer from the Cowley County Sheriff’s Office. This person who had called claim that there was a warrant for the Derby resident and tried to get him to wire some money to take care of the warrant. He then call the Sheriff’s office and was told there was not a warrant and they would not attempt to collect money in any way to satisfy a warrant. He said the person who called had a heavy middle eastern accident. The phone numbers showed to be from British Columbia, Canada. The incident was very similar to one that had occurred several months ago.

Suspicious activity regarding a subject running from a residence was was reported in the 9000 block of First Street in Floral.

Sheriff’s deputies were advised by officers of the Sumner County Sheriff’s Office of a scam that had been attempted in Sumner County in regard to paving of driveways. An attempt to cash a check from an elderly customer of the Caldwell Bank was made but refused. The Sumner County Sheriff’s Office was notified and the subject was located. The work was inspected and found to be very poor and not worth anything near the value that was charged. He was driving a newer white Ford truck with Montana plates.

A female walking in the area near 71st Rd. and US 77 was checked,

A runaway juvenile was reported in the 19000 block of 292nd Rd.

A reckless driving report was taken in the 3000 block of US 160.

A prisoner was transported to the Cowley County jail for the Ark City Police Department
