Cowley County Sheriff’s Reports for December 9 – 13, 2011

DECEMBER 9

Deputies were dispatched to Dexter to pick up a previously reported juvenile runaway who had been found there.

Two prisoners were transported to the Cowley County jail for the Ark City Police Department.

Suspicious activity was reported at a residence in the 21300 block of Hoover. It was found to be workmen doing authorized work on the house.

Cattle were out in the 11000 block of 322nd Rd.

Possible deer poaching was reported in the 8700 block of 272nd Rd.

Deputies were dispatched to the Drivers License Station at Strother Field to check their welfare as the office was known to be open, but repeated attempts to contact anyone by telephone had been unsuccessful. The telephone was found to be off the hook and everyone was fine.

A vehicle, that had been left abandoned for several days, was checked in the 17000 block of 65th Rd.

An identity theft complaint was taken in the 31000 block of 53rd Rd.

A threatening message observed on a Facebook posting was reported in the 7200 block of 244th Rd.

A motorist with a disabled vehicle was assisted at 61st Rd. and 322nd Rd.

A cow was out in the 14000 block of 151st Rd.

A horse was reported out in the 30000 block of 91st Rd.

Ark City Police officers and deputies arrested Travis James Alberding, Winfield, for driving with a suspended license, obstruction of legal process and possession of cocaine.

A motorist who had run out of gas was assisted by deputies in the 25000 block of US 77.

A suspicious vehicle was observed in the 1400 block of 122nd Rd. It was found to be an employee of the business at that location.

DECEMBER 10

Two prisoners were transported to the Cowley County jail for the Ark City Police Department.

Deputies stopped a vehicle in the 20000 block of US 77 when a passenger was observed drawing a lighted cigarette out of the car. The driver Kayla Kieffer, Ark City, was arrested for driving under the influence.

A dead deer was reported at US 166 near 41st Rd.

Telephone harassment complaint was reported in the 5000 block of 272nd Rd.

Sherry Bodkins, Winfield, was arrested on a failure to appear warrant.

An abandoned vehicle was checked in the 19000 block of 21st Rd.

Deputies were called to the Ark City Police Department to talk with a Cowley County resident reporting prior suspicious activity in the 10000 block of 286th Rd.

Minor thefts were reported to be occurring around a residence in the 15000 block of 251st Rd.

An illegal dumping complaint near 11th Rd. and 322nd Rd. was received.

A horse was out in the 30000 block of 91st Rd.

Deputies were dispatched to the 12000 block of 75th Rd. on a report that someone had fired a gun near the caller who had stopped along the road at that location.

A reckless driver was reported to be eastbound from 21st Rd. on US 160.

Several pickups had been reported driving around in the 3000 block of 302nd Rd.

The Dexter Fire Department and deputies responded to a structure fire in Dexter.

DECEMBER 11

Colton Sawyer, Udall, was arrested for driving under the influence in the 25000 block of 61st Rd.

A telephone harassment complaint was received in the 6100 block of 31st Rd.

A two vehicle non-injury accident occurred in the 6000 block of 202nd Rd.

Unknown persons were reported at an abandoned house in the 17000 block of 81st Rd. Ark City Police officers also responded, but no one was found.

A one vehicle rollover injury accident occurred in the 15000 block of 32nd Rd.

DECEMBER 12

A semi truck struck and killed a deer near US 77 and 82nd Rd. there was insufficient damage to require an accident report and no report was requested by the driver.

Five horses were out in the area of the 11000 block of 292nd Rd.

The remains of a dead deer was removed from the road in the 23000 block of K-15.

A cow was out in the 11000 block of 82nd Rd.

Deputies escorted an aircraft being transported by truck through Cowley County from the Oklahoma state line on US 77 to the Butler County line. The aircraft was being moved from the west coast of the United States to the east coast. Ark City Police officers and Winfield Police officers assisted as the aircraft moved through their respective cities. At the Butler County line the escort was transferred to Butler County Sheriff’s deputies.

A red Lincoln 220 V stick welder and a black Craftsman 12 inch circular saw were stolen in the 2700 block of 282nd Rd.

A suspicious vehicle was reported to be parked east of the Baptist Church in Burden.

Deputies checked for a reckless driver westbound on US 160 from 261st Rd.

Winfield Emergency Medical Service was assisted by deputies with a combative patient in the 17000 block of 102nd Rd.

A Cowley County resident contacted deputies regarding a wedding ring set that was lost or stolen from her while she worked at Newton Memorial Hospital in Winfield.

Deputies received a report from the Harper County Sheriff’s Office that it female had used the drivers license of a male Cowley County resident to pass a personal check of that same resident at a business in Harper County. Last week that resident at reported to the Ark City Police Department that his wallet and checkbook had been stolen from him while he was in Ark City.

An identity theft complaint was received in the 16000 block of 121st Rd.

Information regarding a possible wildlife violation occurring in Cowley County was received by deputies. That information was passed on to the local Conservation Officer for the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism.

An identity theft complaint was reported in the 10000 block of 11th Rd.

Suspicious activity was reported in the area of 31000 block of 51st Rd.

A car/deer accident occurred in the 12000 block of 253rd Rd.

DECEMBER 13

A Mental Health involuntary commitment was transported to Larned State Hospital by deputies.

A deputy discovered and put down a deer was extensive injuries found tangled in a barb wire fence in the 28000 block of 32nd Rd.

A report of cattle continually being out was received in the 14000 block of 141st Rd.

Noisy dogs at a trailer was reported in the 400 block of Maple in Atlanta.

A truck was reported possibly on fire in the 18000 block of US 77. It was found to be only steam off the motor.

A domestic civil property issue was reported in the 30000 block of 61st Rd.
