Winfield: Cops probe home invasion, break-in

Authorities are looking for the person or people responsible for breaking into a Winfield home early Friday and taking off with a flat-screen television. The incident is related to another break-in and the theft of a car, chief of police Danny Parker said.

The incidents were said to have occurred within hours of each other late Thursday and early Friday.

Someone was home at 1315 Millington when the residence was broken into around 12:20 a.m.

“She didn’t see them, but she heard them,” Parker said in regard to a female resident of the home. “And I say them, but at this point we’re not entirely sure whether there was one person or two. The TV could’ve easily been carried by one person.”

Investigators were called to the home and trackers were brought into assist with determining which way a suspect or suspects might have fled. Eventually the local tracking team, and the police department’s drug dog, tracked down the television in a dumpster near KPM Computer Solutions on Main.

The trail then lead investigators to an area near Fuller and Sunnyside where they found a four-door white passenger car that had been stolen from a local residence. Parker said the car was connected with the break-in on Millington.

Police connected those incidents with a break-in at Persona Salon & Boutique – at 114 E. Eighth Ave. No one was at Persona when the theft there occurred, however, items from inside the salon were found in the stolen vehicle, Parker said.

He said another report of a prowler or attempted break-in could also be related to the string of crimes. So far, no suspects have been identified and no arrests have been made.

Obviously, Parker said, in the case of an aggravated burglary – where a victim is home at the time – police have increased concern because it’s never clear what the suspect’s intentions are.

It’s the second aggravated burglary police have investigated in the past month.
