Cowley County Sheriff’s Report for December 21, 2011

A miscellaneous animal report concerning dogs was received in the 31000 block of 53rd Rd.

Burglary, theft and criminal damage to property occurred occurred in the 1000 block of 272nd Rd. Taken were: 2 – 1000 foot rolls of # 2 quarter inch copper wiring; 12 – 1000 foot rolls of #4 copperweld wire; 4 – 1000 foot rolls of 1 inch bare copper wiring; 2 partial schools of bare copper wiring; numerous pieces of #4 copper wiring that had been cut on the job; 100 feet of 1 inch spooled aluminum wiring and 42 – 15 foot pieces of grounding tales, (cut pieces of copperweld wire). Total loss was still being determined at the time of this release.

An open door of an unoccupied residence was reported in the 26000 block of 61st Rd.

A horse was out in the 9000 block of 132nd Rd.

Two females had been in an argument in the 18000 block of US 77. One female was given a ride home by the deputy and the other was transported by private vehicle.

A telephone harassment report was taken in the 700 block of Lord Road.

A vehicle parked in the road was reported in the 32000 block of 61st Rd.

Debris was reported in the road in the 4000 block of 132nd Rd.

Suspicious activity regarding some subjects possibly burning copper wiring was reported in the 8000 block of 306th Rd.

A pedestrian walking in the road was reported in the 7000 block of US 77.

A horse was out in the 9000 block of 292nd Rd.

A man was trying to take a vehicle that did not belong to him in the 1000 block of W. 33rd St.

In reference to an earlier call in the 1000 block of 272nd Rd., two spools of large copper wiring had been found by an oilfield pumper approximately 1/2 mile east of the scene of the burglary which he had reported to the investigating officer at the scene. Due to the circumstances, it appeared that the thieves were planning on returning to collect the rest of the wiring, surveillance was set by Undersheriff Bill Mueller and also Detective Sgt. Bruce Hafenstein. At approximately 2:54 AM a vehicle approached the location and entered through a locked gate. The vehicle remain there for approximately 10 min. and then turned around and went back onto 272nd Rd.. Undersheriff Mueller followed the vehicle. Sgt. Allison, Deputy Monroe and Deputy Setzkorn had been notified and were approaching from different directions. The vehicle was South on 11th Rd. where a felony traffic stop was conducted at 11th Rd. and US 166. Three subjects were taken into custody without incident. Timothy Weaver, Del City, OK, was arrested and booked into the Cowley County jail on the following charges; burglary, felony theft, three counts of criminal damage to property, three counts of criminal trespass and driving with a suspended license. Anthony Clay, Oklahoma City, was booked on the following charges; burglary, felony theft, three counts of criminal damage to property and three counts of criminal trespass. A third person will be charged by longform and was released. Weaver and Clay remain in custody. Some of the wiring has been recovered. The case remains under investigation.
