Entries are sought for Kansas Voices contest

Writers have until March 15 to enter the 23rd Kansas Voices Writing Contest.

The annual contest, sponsored by the Winfield Arts and Humanities Council, is open to writers living in Kansas. Winners will be honored and invited to read their work at a special presentation at Baden Square in Winfield on May 5.

All entries must be postmarked by the deadline date. No particular subject matter is required, and all entries are judge by professionals. Judging is based entirely on literary merit.

Entries must be previously unpublished stories or poems accompanied by an official entry form and a $3 entry fee per submission. Amateur and professional writers alike may enter and there are adult and youth divisions in two categories, poetry and prose (short story.)

Writers must be 18 or under to compete in the youth division.

A total of $1,000 in prize money will be awarded: $275 each for first prize in adult poetry and prose, $100 each for first prize in youth poetry and prose, and a total of $250 in honorable mentions.
