Cowley County Sheriff’s Reports for January 13 – 16, 2012

JANUARY 13

Deputies were present while Cowley County Road & Bridge personnel completed cleaning a blighted property site in the 12100 block of US 160.

Tires were dropped off at a Udall business by an unknown person.

Three prisoners were transported to the Cowley County jail for the Ark City Police Department.

An emergency message was delivered to an Atlanta resident.

Cattle were in the road in the 11000 block of 212th Rd.

A suspicious black bag was discovered along the Creek bed in the 26000 block of 155th Rd. A dog that had apparently been dead for several weeks was found inside that bag.

A calf was reported in a small enclosure in the 11000 block of 122nd Rd. When deputies went to check the welfare of the calf nothing was found.

A motorist who was out of fuel was assisted by deputies in the 23000 block of US 77.

The Drug Task Force were assisted by deputies and Ark City Police officers with the execution of a search warrant at a residence in the 400 block of North Sixth, Ark City.

An unknown vehicle was reported at a residence in the 17000 block of 152nd Rd. It was found to belong to people reportedly staying at the residence with the permission of the owner while the owner was gone on vacation.

Winfield Police officers were assisted by deputies with a disturbance call in the 900 block of Stewart.

JANUARY 14

An out of gas motorist was assisted in the 17000 block of US 166.

A disturbance was reported in the 11000 block of 144th Ln. It was found to be two juveniles playing basketball late at night.

Mano Mejia, Ark City, was arrested for driving under the influence and driving without a license in the 31000 block of US 77.

Cattle were out in the 14000 block of 151st Rd.

Suspicious activity was reported in the 8000 block of 122nd Rd.

An identity theft complaint was received in the 10000 block of 41st Rd.

Cattle were out in the 14000 block of 151st Rd.

Deputies were dispatched to a report of someone target shooting without a property backstop in the 29000 block of 99th Rd.

A hitchhiker was reported in the 4000 block of US 77. The hitchhiker had been involved in a car/deer accident near 102nd Rd. and US 77 and was walking for help.

Deputies were requested by the Elk County Sheriff’s Office to watch for a vehicle reportedly just involved in a theft in Elk County and possibly headed toward Haysville.

A missing dog report was taken in the 10000 block of Robin Drive.

A miscellaneous dog complaint was received in the 7000 block of 172nd Rd.

Deputies were dispatched to the Cinema 8 Theatre for a report regarding the theft of a wallet from a woman’s purse that had been forgotten their the previous night.

A one vehicle non-injury accident occurred in the 13900 block of US 166.

An abandoned vehicle was checked in a driving lane at the railroad tracks on US 77 at Strother Field..

A fire at a tank battery near 202nd Rd. and 31st Rd. was checked and determined to be a controlled burn.

A prisoner was transported to the Cowley County jail for the Ark City Police Department.

Deputies assisted a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper with a traffic stop in the 27000 block of US 77. They further assisted in transporting one arrested person to the Cowley County jail from that scene.

JANUARY 15

Ginger K Hopper, Mulvane, was arrested for driving under the influence in the 8000 block of 21st Rd.

A one vehicle non-injury rollover accident occurred in the 17000 block of K-15. The driver had swerved to miss a deer in the road.

Deputies were dispatched to a report of cattle out in the 16500 block of 136th Rd. and the 16100 block of 112th Rd.

One prisoner was transported to the Callie County jail for the Ark City Police Department.

A minor car/deer accident occurred in the 13000 block of US 160. The damage was minor and no accident report was required.

JANUARY 16

Two prisoners were transported to the Cowley County jail for the Ark City Police Department.

A pedestrian was checked in the area of 132nd Rd. and 21st Rd.

Deputies met and Augusta Police officer at the Cowley County line on US 77 to take custody of Richard Allen Mardis, Wichita, who had been arrested by that agency on a Cowley County warrant for failure to appear.

A vicious dog complaint was reported in Rock.

Ark City Fire Department and deputies responded to a possible House fire in the 27100 block of 71st Rd. There was no fire, but the house was filled with smoke due to a closed fireplace chimney damper.

Deputies transported an Ark City resident from Ark City to the Winfield Police Department for an injured interview and then back to Ark City at the conclusion of that interview.

Leur Lae Insaly, Winfield, was arrested on a warrant for failure to appear, driving with a suspended license, no proof of insurance and expired tag in the 100 block of East 16th.
