It appears Democratic Cowley County commissioner Gary Wilson will have at least one challenger as he makes his bid for a third term.
During comments on the NewsCow Friday Live Blog, Ark City commissioner Patrick McDonald acknowledged he was considering a run for the second-district county commission seat. McDonald, a Republican, said he expected to file within the next week or so.
He has served as a city commissioner and mayor, over the course of several years. This would be McDonald’s first foray into county politics.
If no other candidates filed for the position, he and Wilson would face each other in the November general election.
Asked about his motivation to run, McDonald told NewsCow bloggers:
“Most everyone believes in taking advantage of opportunities. I like to move to make more opportunities happen.”
