Man in critical after crashing into truck Thurs.

A Belle Plaine man was critically injured late Thursday when the vehicle he was driving crashed into a Schwans delivery truck, according to a report from the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Donald R. Stewart, 45, was transported to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. He remained in critical condition this morning, according to a hospital spokesperson.

Just before 9 p.m., Stewart was westbound on U.S. 81 highway when he struck the westbound delivery truck about 2.5 miles west of Belle Plaine near where the highway meets Timber Rd. Stewart hit the truck from behind.

Stewart was driving a 1997 GMC utility truck. He was not wearing a seat belt, according to the highway patrol report.

Keith Gillespie, 39, Conway Springs, was identified as the driver of the 2006 Schwans GMC truck. He was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.
