Trial set for May 8 for suspect in crash death

A Cowley County Judge has set May 8 as the date for jury selection to begin in the unintentional second-degree murder trial of Kyndal Orange.

Orange, 24, has pleaded not guilty to charges connected with the March 2011 death of TiOnna Bruno of Ark City. Bruno was killed when the vehicle she was riding in crashed along U.S. 77 Highway near Strother Field.

Orange is accused of recklessly causing the crash with his driving. The two were in a relationship and said to have been arguing when the incident occurred.

The court had previously issued a protective order prohibiting Orange from having contact with Bruno.

A judge has asked that prosecutors also add involuntary manslaughter in commission of a DUI as an alternative to the murder charge.

Orange has remained in the Cowley County Jail since his arrest on March 5, 2011. His bond is set at just over $51,000.

While a trial date has been set, it is not uncommon for delays to potentially arise.

Orange is represented by local attorney Jennifer Passiglia.
