AC cops: Fleeing driver ran over officer Sat.

Ark City police are continuing to look for a man accused of fleeing from authorities and running over a police officer during an incident Saturday evening. The officer was not seriously injured.

Around 6:45 p.m., officers were sent to the 1200 block of S. Second in regard to a man refusing to leave a residence. Police encountered the man as he walked down a driveway at the home.

The man, according to a report from police, ran to a newer model, silver Dodge pickup truck. As he attempted to flee, an officer reached into the window in an attempt to stop the suspect.

The driver began driving with the officer still in the window of the vehicle. This continued, at a speed of around 25 to 30 miles per hour. The officer was able to get up on the nerf bars of the vehicle, according to a written report of the incident.

After riding on the truck for about half a block, the officer jumped from the truck and his legs were run over by the truck. He was taken to a local hospital, treated and released.

Police are not publicly releasing the name of the officer involved.

Other officers at the scene pursued the vehicle as it left the city limits heading west bound. Speeds reached 100 miles per hour and the chased ended due to the reckless driving of the suspect, the report indicated.

Police are looking for Joshua P. Harris in connection with this incident. He could face charges of aggravated battery of a law enforcement officer, fleeing and eluding, and criminal trespass.
