Meth by mail: Winfield cops nab drug suspect

Meth in the mail led Winfield police to a man they arrested on numerous drug charges Tuesday afternoon.

Acting on a tip, local investigators intercepted a UPS package being sent to an address in Winfield. Inside the package, which police obtained a search warrant to open, were 22 grams – or about three-quarters of an ounce – of methamphetamine.

Police then secured a search warrant for the residence to which the package was to be delivered. At the home, officers found Kyle Harris, 36, who lists Independence, Kan. as his address. He ran from police.

Harris was the suspected recipient of the package, which was originally shipped from Arizona.

Police pursued Harris for several minutes and he was apprehended in the 1300 block of Manning. His bond has been set at $14,000.

Harris had outstanding felony warrants from Montgomery County and is facing drug possession and distribution charges in Cowley County.
