AC middle school to have no classes April 25

Middle school students will not have classes on April 25 as the Ark City Middle School plays host to the Pioneer League Vocal Music Festival.

The board of education has authorized a non-school day for middle school students only. Many ACMS students are involved in the competition and due to the large number of participants several staff members and much of the building will be utilized for the festival.

The district built several buffer days into the school calendar in case of bad weather, natural disasters, and, or any other reason that may cause school to be canceled.

The middle school will take April 25 off from school and will not have to make that day up, school officials said. All elementary schools and the high school will be still in session.

The school will host seven other schools from its division in the Pioneer League, including: Augusta, Circle, El Dorado, Mulvane, Rose Hill, Wellington, and Winfield.

The vocal music festival is one of three major music events the Pioneer League has each year. There is also an Honor’s music festival in the fall, and a band and orchestra festival on May 2 in Wellington.
