Police find meth dump in truck; 2 are arrested

Local authorities discovered a meth dump site in the back of a pickup truck Tuesday after an incident in Winfield that began with an attempt to arrest a wanted man. Two people are facing charges in connection with the case.

An investigation began after police received information that Bobby Jo Davison, 38, Ark City, had just gotten into a red Chevy truck and left a Winfield residence in the 400 block of E. Sixth. Davison had a warrant out for his arrest.

Police attempted to stop Davison’s truck in an alley in 200 block of E. Sixth, but the suspect sped off when an officer activated emergency lights.

After a short pursuit, occupants of the vehicle jumped from the moving vehicle and escaped on foot. The driver, Jeremy Smith, 38, Winfield, was quickly apprehended, police said. Davison led police on a more extended foot chase and manhunt.

He was eventually arrested after entering two different structures in an attempt to hide from police.

Officers with the Cowley County Drug Task Force arrived to examine the truck and located a meth dumpsite in the bed of the vehicle. A Missouri-based agency was contacted to package up and dispose of contaminated items.

Smith was arrested and faces charges of attempt to elude, reckless driving, driving while suspended, no proof of insurance, obstruction and possession of meth.

Davison was arrested on the warrants and faces counts of felony obstruction of official duty, two counts of burglary and various drug charges. His bond has been set at $160,000, though he is also being held on no-bond warrants.

Bond for Smith is set at $107,600.
