Two hurt in crash south of Udall late Thursday

Two people were critically hurt in a single car rollover accident south of Udall Thursday night.

Just before 10 p.m., emergency crews were called to Cowley 3 and 132nd Road for the report of single vehicle rollover accident.

First responders found a man and woman still trapped inside the car when they arrived on scene. Fire crews had to cut the doors off the vehicle to get to the patients.

Once pulled from the car, Mateo Luis Rodriguez, 18, of Wichita, and Lauren Bethany Olivia, 28, of Paola, were taken by air ambulance to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita in critical condition.

Sheriff Deputies investigating say the car was headed north on Cowley 3 when it started to pass in a no passing zone, at a high rate of speed.

Rodriguez lost control of the car and it entered a ditch on the west side, sending the vehicle into a fence, and then into a power pole, when it flipped and came to rest on its top.

Deputies could not provide any additional information as the crash is still under investigation. They say they are also investigating to see if alcohol played a factor in the accident.

Both Rodriguez and Olivia are listed in critical condition as of Friday morning, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
