King’s Treatment sells to Missouri-based Co.

Wichita-based King’s Treatment Center – which operates a residential and outpatient facility in Winfield – has been acquired by Missouri-based Preferred Family Healthcare Inc.

The companies Wednesday jointly announced the move, which became official on May 1. Preferred Family Healthcare also provides outpatient substance-abuse treatment in southeast Kansas through offices in Iola and Chanute, and is the Regional Prevention Center for south-central and southeast Kansas.

“Preferred Family Healthcare is excited about this opportunity to serve an expanded population of consumers and their families in need of substance abuse and related services in the State of Kansas.” Michael T. Schwend, president and CEO of Preferred Family Healthcare, said.

King’s Alcohol and Drug Treatment Center was founded in late 2002 by Heath Bechler of Wichita and businessman Dick Kelsey of Goddard.

As the time of its sale, King’s had worked with over 10,000 people through its numerous programs across the state, the company said in a written statement announcing the deal.

“It wasn’t hard to see the commitment to quality (PFH) had for their customers, facilities and staff. It also wasn’t hard to see how King’s could…or should, become of a part of that,” Bechler said. “They are providing services to their consumers in ways I have only dreamt of for years. We are quite flattered PFH has brought us into their family”.
