Trimmer to seek fourth term in Kansas House

Ed Trimmer, D-Winfield, has filed for reelection to the Kansas House of Representatives. He represents the 78th district, which includes northern Cowley County.

Trimmer was appointed to replace Judy Showalter, following her death in 2005, and he was elected to the position during the fall of 2006. He is seeking his fourth two-year term.

Trimmer currently serves on the House Education Committee, the Health and Human Services Committee, the Government Efficiency and Financial Oversight Committee, and the Joint Committee on Governmental Rules and Regulations.

He has been appointed to two special commissions; The Rural Policy Commission and the Kansas Public Employees Study Commission, according to a statement from Trimmer announcing his reelection plans.

Ed is married to Kris Trimmer, a Winfield High School teacher, and they have two grown daughters. Kyle and her husband, Alfredo, live in Fort Worth, Texas with their son Asanty Ryan and daughter Avery.

Jess and her husband, Mark, live in Palo Alto, Calif.

Larry Alley, a Winfield Republican, filed in January to challenge Trimmer for the seat.

Alley ran against Trimmer two years ago.

In 2010, Alley ran as an independent. He did so because he filed late after finding out that Trimmer had no competition in his bid for reelection.
