Authorities investigate bank robbery in Oxford

UPDATE 2:30 p.m. – A lone white male walked into Emerald Bank Thursday morning, brandished a handgun and left with money he demanded from a teller, FBI investigators said.

The bank at 305 E. Main was robbed around 9:30 a.m. The suspect obtained an undisclosed amount of money without incident and left the bank in an unknown direction.

No vehicle information was obtained and no video surveillance was recovered, authorities said.

The man is described a white male wearing a dark-hooded sweatshirt, camo pants and a ski mask. He was said to have been carrying a dark colored pistol.

UPDATE: A spokesperson with the Oxford Police Dept. confirmed a robbery investigation is underway at the bank. Further details were not disclosed.

Trackers from Cowley County had arrived at the scene as of 11 a.m., presumably to assist in tracking a suspect. The FBI is expected to investigate the incident, according to authorities at the scene.


Officers with multiple agencies are in Oxford Thursday morning and have established a significant presence at Emerald Bank there. Authorities are checking vehicles as they leave town.
