Second Winfield inmate captured near Byers

The second of two inmates, who escaped from the Winfield Correctional Facility June 16, was captured just before noon Monday near Byers, Kan.

Robert Cook, 52, was taken into custody without incident, according to the Kansas Dept. of Corrections. Byers is small town northwest of Pratt.

Frank Crutchfield, 48, was taken into custody last Wednesday in Wichita.

The pair escaped the facility Winfield Correctional Facility in a state-owned truck used to transport food. It was found abandoned about 15 miles north of Winfield the day after the escape.

It is believed the two then stole a city of Douglass vehicle, a 2006 GMC Sierra, and Douglass city officials said that vehicle also was recovered this morning from a tow facility.
