Deer in the road causes motorcycle rider to crash

A motorcycle rider from out of state was injured Tuesday evening in an accident on U.S. 166 highway near Ark City.

Just before 7 p.m., Cowley County Sheriff deputies responded to the report of a single vehicle motorcycle accident reported at K15 and 166 West.

A blue 2017, Harley Davidson, driven by 69 year old Darrel Halbrooks of Richmond, Kentucky, was traveling eastbound in the 25000 block of US 166 and swerved to miss a deer.

Halbrooks attempted to stop and was thrown from the motorcycle.

He was transported to South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.
