ACPD: Man arrested for stealing vehicles; Battery on an officer

Local police have arrested an Ark City man they said stole a pair of vehicles over the weekend and then committed battery on an officer who was taking him into custody, according to a report from police.

30-year-old Kyson P. Scott was booked into jail on two counts of felony theft, criminal threat and battery of a law enforcement officer. He later posted $8,500 bond and was released from the Cowley County Jail.

Officers were dispatched at 8:35 p.m. Sunday for a report of a 2000 Chrysler Town and Country that had been stolen from the parking lot of Dollar General, 2411 N. Summit St.

The officers located the stolen car at 10:09 p.m. in the parking lot of the Arkansas City Recreation Center, located at 220 E. Fifth Ave. They then discovered a 2003 Mercury Sable had been stolen.

Officers obtained video footage from the rec center that showed the suspect stealing the Mercury. They also obtained video of the same person in the Walmart parking lot, walking toward Dollar General.

The suspect was identified as Scott, who was located and questioned about the two stolen vehicles.

At the time of his arrest, he allegedly battered an officer and made threats to harm the officer once released from jail. Charges were added to his booking for the battery and threat.

The officer did not sustain any injuries as a result of the battery.
