Cowley County Authorities Still Working to ID Remains Found Saturday

Cowley County authorities are seeking help from the public as they continue working to identify human remains found in a field southeast of Ark City over the weekend.

Preliminary findings – based on an autopsy conducted Monday – indicated there was no trauma located on the body, according to a statement released by Sheriff David Falletti. A cause of death remains unknown.

The remains are said to be that of a male who is small in stature. There were no identifiable markings on the body.

“I have had past cases, where due to decomposition, the cause of death was never known,” Falletti said in response to email questions from NewsCow. “Investigators are still working hard to obtain an identity.”

An official autopsy report will take some time to complete.

The remains were first discovered Saturday morning by someone checking cattle in a field in the 7000 block of 312th Rd.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is assisting with the investigation. If you have any information please contact the Cowley County Sheriff’s Office at 620-221-5444 or Cowley County Crime Stoppers at 620-221-7777 or 620-441-7777.
