Winfield Firefighters Part of Crew Sent to Texas For Storm Help

Water rescue teams from agencies across Kansas – including three people from the Winfield Fire-EMS Dept. – are in Texas to assist in recovery efforts from Hurricane-turned-Tropical Depression Harvey.

The Kansas Adjutant General’s Office announced Wednesday night that Kansas is sending flood rescue personnel, along with hard-bottom, air boats, and inflatable boats.

Winfield Fire Captain Chad Mayberry and firefighter-paramedics Jeremy DeCoudres and Jaron Mertz will be in Texas for about a week as part of the effort.

Winfield was one of several teams that departed Wednesday night. Crews continued to deploy Thursday.

The Adjutant General’s Office says the Kansas teams will search for and transport any people and animals stranded by flood waters.

They will also provide basic life support and medical care, while supporting helicopter and urban search and rescue efforts.
