Sentencing in Rape Case Is Postponed Until November

Sentencing has again been delayed for an Ark City man who was found guilty of multiple sex crimes involving underage girls.

37-year-old Darren L. Williams is now expected to be sentenced at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 6 at the Cowley County Courthouse in Winfield.

Williams had originally been scheduled for sentencing in August but that was rescheduled for this week. On Monday, the proceeding was delayed again.

An attorney for Williams objected to a portion of the pre-sentencing report and said more time was needed to review some aspects of it.

In July, the 37-year-old Williams entered no-contest pleas to a count of rape and three counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child. Multiple teenage victims are covered by the charges to which Williams pleaded.

The plea agreement allowed Williams to forego a trial in the case.

Once Williams serves his sentence, he must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

Williams was arrested early in 2016 on more than two-dozen sex-related crimes. He remains in the Cowley County Jail with bond set at $200,000.
