Winfield Man Killed in Crash Near Wellington Wednesday Afternoon

A 25-year-old local man was killed Wednesday afternoon when the vehicle he was driving collided with a semi east of Wellington on U.S. 160, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Adam Bennett was dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred around 2:40 p.m. Bennett was said to currently live in Winfield though he grew up in Wellington.

Bennett was eastbound on 160 in a 2012 Chrysler 300 when he went left of center for an unknown reason, according to a report. The Chrysler collided with a 1986 Peterbilt semi traveling westbound.

The semi ended up in the north ditch and the Bennett vehicle ended up in the south shoulder of the highway. The crash occurred just west of an entryway to the Kansas Turnpike.

57-year-old Timothy Godsey, of Wichita, was driving the semi. Godsey was evaluated for possible injury.

The accident closed traffic in that area for some time as emergency crews and law enforcement did their work.

Both men were using safety restraints, according the highway patrol.
