Convicted Sex Offender, Accused Of Following AC Child, Is In Jail Without Bond

A convicted sex offender remains in the Sumner County Jail today on a parole violation.

34-year-old Dustin Shane Stalder, of Oxford, was being held without bond following his arrest just before 6:30 p.m. Tuesday evening. He was apprehended by police in Wellington.

So far, no other charges have been filed against Stalder.

On Tuesday, Ark City Police asked the public to be on the lookout for Stalder in connection with a case they began investigating earlier this month.

On Oct. 4, at about 4:45 p.m., a man followed a 10-year-old boy home from a bus stop in Ark City to his house a couple of blocks away.

The man asked the boy if he could come inside the house. The boy said no and locked the door to keep the man outside.

The boy then took a picture of the man through the front window.

On Oct. 23, 2017 officers learned of a man who had family in the area of the Oct. 4 incident and also matched the description of the suspect.

Investigators then began looking for Stalder, a Department of Corrections absconder and a sex offender last registered in Sedgwick County. Stalder has an active warrant for his arrest through the Topeka Department of Corrections for a parole violation.

According to the KBI’s offender registry, Stalder was convicted in 2007 of attempted sexual assault of a child in Falls City, Nebraska. He was listed as non-compliant, and his last known address was 1848 North Madison Avenue in Wichita.

Kansas Department of Corrections records show Stalder has additional prior convictions of attempted burglary in Nemaha County and forgery in Sumner County. He was listed as a parole absconder as of August 28.
