Cowley Authorities Look For Texas Man Said To Have Struck Landowner With Vehicle

Cowley County authorities are looking for an 18-year-old Texas man they say ran into a fence with a vehicle at a rural property and then ran over the land owner while leaving the area.

Caleb Taylor Calverly is said to be traveling with 15-year-old Kara Hurst, a reported runaway from Texas. The incident with the fence occurred Sunday around 3 p.m. in the area of 11757 152nd Rd. The person struck was not seriously injured.

A family member of the property owner followed the driver into town and Calverly is said to have purposely hit the vehicle of the person following him. Calverly and Hurst stopped the vehicle at 1001 E. Fourth in Winfield and were seen leaving on foot.

A search of the area was conducted, with the assistance of the Winfield Police Department. Neither Calverly nor Hurst were located.

Calverly is described as being 5 feet 10 inches tall, 232 pounds with brown hair and eyes.

He could face charges that include aggravated battery and aggravated assault.
