William Newton Auxiliary Pledges $250,000 To Help Fund Surgical Dept. Expansion

Members of the William Newton Hospital Auxiliary board recently presented the William Newton Healthcare Foundation with a monetary gift that will help the hospital advance its plans to expand the surgical department to meet growing healthcare demands in this area.

More than 100 community residents volunteer at the hospital through the William Newton Hospital Auxiliary. Over 60 of those members have been active in generating income through fundraisers such as the 50-50 raffle, potato bar feed, Pro-Am Golf Tournament, and the Holiday Market.

The funds raised from these events and others were included in the initial gift of $41,700 to the William Newton Healthcare Foundation, which is the first installment of a six-year pledge totaling $250,000.

Over the past five years, the hospital has seen an increase of 6.4 percent in total surgical patient procedures. The gift was announced at the auxiliary’s annual Christmas party earlier this month.

“The members of the auxiliary are so excited to support the hospital’s plans in this way. At their November board meeting, members voted to sign this pledge,” said Director of Volunteer Services Cheryl Brock. “So many dedicated volunteers, along with support from our community, made this possible.”

Annika Morris, William Newton Healthcare Foundation director, indicated that this gift will be recognized by naming the new surgical waiting room in honor of the William Newton Hospital Auxiliary.

“Showcasing the surgical waiting room is a wonderful way to honor the auxiliary and the fact that more than 100 members volunteer time and services to support the hospital’s vision,” said Morris. “It will remind patients and visitors how our hospital is supported by our community.”

Auxiliary President Georgia Larson presented the donation to Morris along with William Newton Hospital Chief Executive Officer Ben Quinton.
