Argonia, Fairfield Superintendents and Salina Administrator Are Finalists For Winfield Job

The Winfield school district has chosen three finalists for the position of superintendent for USD 465. Finalists will visit the district this month as part of the interview process.

The board of education received 17 applications from those seeking to replace J.K. Campbell, who has announced plans to retire at the end of the school year. Craig Wilford, of the Kansas Association of School Boards, presented the board with the applications at a special meeting Wednesday.

The finalists are Dr. Nathan Reed, superintendent for USD 310 in Fairfield, Kan., Dr. Julie McPherron, superintendent at USD 359 in Argonia, and Mike Lowers, executive director of special education for USD 305 in Salina.

Reed will visit Monday, McPherron Tuesday and Lowers Wednesday.

Each Candidate will be in the district for a full day of meetings with district administrators, teachers, and staff, touring facilities, attending receptions, dinner, and interview.

Staff, students, and community are encouraged to attend receptions in the boardroom at
William Medley Administration Center each day. Receptions with teachers and staff will be from 4 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Receptions with students and community members will be from 4:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Media are invited to a special media reception from 5 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.

At 5:30 p.m. each evening the BOE will hold a special meeting for dinner then recess and reconvene at William Medley Administration Center for the remainder of the interview process in executive session.

“We believe, with the guidance of KAB (Kansas Association of School Boards), we have selected three strong candidates,” USD 465 school board president Lyle Weinert, said.
