ACPD Arrests Woman Driving In A Stolen Vehicle on Sunday

The Arkansas City Police Department arrested a Wichita woman Sunday after she was stopped while driving a vehicle that had been stolen from Wichita.

Briana Rene Vanegmond, 26, was arrested on suspicion of felony possession of stolen property.

She also was arrested on a Sedgwick County District Court warrant for misdemeanor failure to appear.

Vanegmond was transported to and booked into the Cowley County Jail with bond set at $102,000.

She remained in custody Tuesday.

An ACPD officer stopped a vehicle that had been reported stolen about 9:24 a.m. Sunday. The driver pulled off the street into the parking lot of Casey’s General Store, located at 601 S. Summit St.

Officers instructed the vehicle’s two occupants to exit the vehicle. The driver, Vanegmond, and her passenger, a 33-year-old Wichita man, were taken into custody at the location of the traffic stop.

The vehicle, a gold 2011 Hyundai passenger car, was recovered by police.

It had been reported stolen to Wichita police on Jan. 20 by its owner, a 50-year-old Wichita female.

Vanegmond later was found to have an outstanding warrant for her arrest in Sedgwick County.

The passenger was released from custody at the scene of the stop and the vehicle was towed.

During an inventory search of the vehicle, police found several pieces of mail belonging to different residents of Wichita and the surrounding area. An investigation is ongoing to determine if those people also were the victims of criminal acts. The vehicle since has been returned to its rightful owner.
