AC Man Accused Of Using Knife To Try To Steal Vehicle On Easter

Local police arrested an Arkansas City man Sunday night after he allegedly attempted to steal a car while armed with a weapon.

Aaron Christian Griffith, 18, was arrested on a charge of aggravated robbery, which is a felony.

He was transported to and booked into the Cowley County Jail with bond set at $10,000 through Cowley County District Court in Arkansas City. Griffith remained in custody on Monday.

Officers were dispatched about 5:40 p.m. Sunday to the 400 block of E. Fifth Avenue for a report of an attempted theft involving a possible weapon.

The alleged victim, a 17-year-old Arkansas City male, said he discovered the suspect in the process of stealing his car. Based on the description given, officers were able to locate Griffith a few blocks away from the scene and took him into custody.

Griffith is said to have displayed a knife toward the victim and indicated he was going to take the vehicle, but then he fled on foot without taking it. The suspect is accused of taking money from a compartment inside the vehicle.
