Winfield police are currently investigating the report of a home invasion sexual assault said to have occurred at a Winfield residence in the early morning hours Friday, according to chief of police Brett Stone.

Police were at a residence in the 1400 block of E. 8th this morning. Local trackers could be seen a few blocks from that residence examining a yard and sidewalk.

No suspect has been identified so far. A female was to undergo a sexual assault examination at the local hospital, Stone said.

Police overnight received a report from a woman who awoke to a person assaulting her. Footprints and other evidence in the area could aid the investigation and perhaps help police identify a suspect, Stone said.

More information is to be provided later today.
