2 Brothers Charged In Robbery-Kidnapping Case Are Back In Court Next Week

Two Winfield brothers – charged in connection with a September kidnapping and robbery investigation – are expected back in court next week.

18-year-old Johnathen B. Jones and 19-year-old Jaylen R. Jones are scheduled to return to court at 3 p.m. May 7. The appearance will occur at the Cowley County Courthouse in Winfield.

The Joneses are expected to waive their right for a preliminary hearing that day and could possibly be arraigned.

Johnathen B. Jones, of Winfield, has been formally charged with aggravated kidnapping, aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary, criminal threat and multiple other crimes, including burglary and theft.

Jones was just three months short of his 18th birthday when the alleged crimes occurred and thus has been charged as an adult, Cowley County Attorney Larry Schwartz has said.

Bond for Johnathen Jones is set at $250,000.

Jaylen R. Jones is facing similar charges and was at large for a time before being arrested. He’s also facing a charge for aggravated intimidation of a witness. His bond is set at $50,000.

Both men remained jail on Monday.

A juvenile female has also been charged with similar crimes.

On Sept. 11, police investigated a report that a man had been robbed at gunpoint, attacked and left stranded in the trunk of a vehicle. The alleged victim first said the incident occurred in Winfield, however, that was determined to not be true.

Burden Police began investigating the case and formal charges were then filed.
The three are also charged in a string of burglaries in the Burden area that were said to have occurred late on Sept. 16 or early Sept. 17.

Each suspect is facing more than ten criminal counts.
