Winfield Man Accused Of Battery Against Ark City Police Officers

The Arkansas City Police Department arrested a Winfield man Saturday afternoon after he allegedly battered two police officers during a combative traffic stop, according to information released by the police dept.

Matthew Jacob Tickel, 32, was arrested on suspicion of two misdemeanor counts of battery of a law enforcement officer, as well as one misdemeanor count each of interference with a law enforcement officer and possession of marijuana.

Tickel was transported to and booked into the Cowley County Jail in lieu of $7,000 bond through Cowley County District Court in Arkansas City. He has posted bond and been released from custody.

Officers conducted a traffic stop of a maroon Ford F-150 pickup truck about 2:50 p.m. Saturday in the 2600 block of North Summit Street. The odor of marijuana was detected coming from the vehicle.

The driver, Tickel, was asked to exit the vehicle, but he became combative and allegedly battered two officers. He continued to resist until he finally was arrested and taken into police custody.

A subsequent search of the vehicle found a small amount of a substance thought to be marijuana.
