UPDATE 6:48 p.m. – The rider of the horse was transported by air ambulance to Wichita for treatment of his injuries. An officer at the scene told NewsCow-KSOK that the rider had sustained serious head injuries.
The female driver of the SUV was transported to an emergency room in Derby for treatment of injuries.

A rider was injured late this afternoon when the horse he was on was struck by an SUV on Cowley 3 south of Udall.
That accident occurred around 5:30 p.m. A driver who stopped at the scene said the animal was dead and in the middle of the roadway.
The rider was thrown many feet and was awaiting medical attention.
Emergency medical crews arrived a short time later. Information on his condition was not available, so far.
The dark-in-color SUV was said to have sustained considerable damage. There was no immediate information available on the condition of the driver of the SUV or any passengers inside of it.
