William Newton Hospital Gets Award For Wellness Initiatives

William Newton Hospital in Winfield is one of two recipients of the 2018 Healthy Kansas Hospitals Centers of Excellence Award.

The hospital received their award in a local ceremony held Wednesday afternoon.

Healthy Kansas Hospitals is a group whose original goal was to help hospitals provide healthier food and beverage options throughout their facilities for hospital employees, patients and visitors.

The group also now works to promote additional initiatives to help hospitals with the overall wellness of their employees.

Community HealthCare System in Onaga was also awarded.

William Newton Hospital and its staff were recognized for efforts that included providing healthier alternatives to soft drinks and healthier options in the hospital cafeteria.

The awards includes a $1,000 gift to be used to support future projects aimed at expanding hospital efforts and widening community impact.

The Kansas Hospital Association is a voluntary, non-profit organization existing to be an advocate and resource for members.

KHA membership includes 217 member facilities, of which 124 are full-service, community hospitals.
