Traffic Stop Leads To Arrest Of Winfield Man Thursday

The Arkansas City Police Department arrested a Winfield man and an Arkansas City juvenile Thursday in connection with drugs and weapon charges.

Gabriel Sebastian Yonash, 20, of Winfield, was arrested on suspicion of felony possession with intent to sell marijuana, as well as misdemeanor counts of criminal possession of a firearm, endangering a child and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Yonash was transported to and booked into the Cowley County Jail in lieu of $8,000 bond through Cowley County District Court in Arkansas City. He remained in custody at the time of this release.

A 16-year-old Arkansas City male was arrested for possession of tobacco.

Officers conducted a traffic stop about 5:31 p.m. Thursday in the 200 block of East Quincy Avenue after observing a white 2007 Ford Five Hundred being driven with a defective driver’s-side brake lamp.

They made contact with the driver, Yonash, and his 16-year-old passenger, and smelled the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. As a result, they conducted a search of the vehicle.

During this investigation, officers located marijuana and drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle, along with a loaded .22-caliber rifle in the vehicle’s trunk. A small bag of marijuana was located on the juvenile.
