A man is in custody following a standoff in northwest Ark City early Friday afternoon.
According to City of Ark City Public Information Officer Andrew Lawson, a mental health subject was near the area of the Riverview Cemetery armed with a handgun around the noon hour. At approximately 1 p.m., the suspect was apprehended and an all-clear was called by authorities.
No one was injured. The man will be taken for mental health screening. South Central Kansas SWAT, Sumner County Sheriff’s Office, Cowley County Sheriff’s Office, Winfield Police Department, Kansas Highway Patrol and Burden Police Department assisted.
No charges expected at this time, other than possibly criminal discharge of a firearm within the City limits.
