AC Man Charged With Attempted Murder For Recent Pellet Gun Attack

An Ark City man has been charged with attempted murder, attempted aggravated kidnapping, and three other felony charges stemming from a Dec. 9 shooting incident involving a pellet gun in Geuda Springs, according to a report from Sumner NewsCow Wednesday.

Sumner County Attorney Kerwin Spencer filed the complaint, in Sumner district court in Wellington, against 28-year-old Cory Brawley.

According to the filing, Brawley disguised a pellet gun as a .22 or .25 caliber pistol, and stuck it into the passenger side of a 2001 Chevy Impala driven by Eric Brown of Arkansas City. Spencer says Brawley then shot Brown in the face and shoulder several times.

Brown believed the weapon to be a real gun and thought he would die as a result of the attack.

He suffered extensive bleeding and injuries near his ear and eye.

Spencer says Brown was able to escape the situation by driving away in his car as Brawley continued to shoot at him.

On Dec. 9, Sumner County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Mike Westmoreland told KSOK-NewsCow authorities were dispatched to the Geuda Springs area between Winfield and Ark City at 3 p.m. that afternoon.

Westmoreland said the residence was just 20 feet from the Sumner-Cowley-county line, on the Sumner side.

At the time, Westmoreland described Brown as a white male in his late 30s.

Brown was treated and released from South Central Kansas Medical Center in Arkansas City. Initially, deputies were unable to locate Brawley.

A bond of $30,000 has been set for Brawley in Sumner County.

Brawley is currently serving time in Kay County (Okla.) jail facing an unrelated felony charge of endangering others and eluding an officer. He has been in custody in Newkirk since Jan. 3
