Fired Winfield Cop Sean Skov Hired As Argonia Police Chief

Former Winfield police officer Sean Skov, who was fired last year after conducting a traffic stop, was recently hired as the police chief of Argonia in Sumner County.

Skov was hired in November.

Argonia mayor Rick Dolley told KSOK-NewsCow Thursday afternoon he was aware of the situation that led to Skov’s firing from the WPD.

“I think if the newspapers and everyone investigated they’d see there’s no red flags,” he said.

In May, Skov stopped Winfield resident Rudy Samuel for an apparent signal violation, but the incident turned into a search of Samuel’s car for drugs and him being pulled out of the car and temporarily handcuffed. Skov, who cited suspected vegetation on a window sill, found no drugs and let Samuel go, but Samuel posted a video that captured part of the incident on Facebook Live that went viral.

Dolley described Argonia as a farming community of 500 people and said he was pleased with the hire.

“We’re excited to have him, he’s a great person,” he said. “And we’re just excited, everybody thinks the world of him (at the police department).”
