The William Newton Hospital Auxiliary presented a $60,000 check to the William Newton Healthcare Foundation as the second installment of a six-year pledge totaling $250,000, according to a news release from the hospital Tuesday.

The check was presented at the hospital’s annual holiday celebration.

It was the largest annual amount ever given by the auxiliary to the hospital, beating the record set in 2008 for $52,000.

“Our fundraising activities throughout the year made this possible,” said William Newton Hospital Director of Volunteer Services Cheryl Brock. “We are so grateful for the continued support from our auxilians and the community.”

In 2018, the auxiliary pledged to support the Second Century Campaign, the capital campaign backing William Newton Hospital’s long-term plan to expand facilities. The hospital says this gift will help the hospital advance its plans to expand the surgical department to meet growing healthcare demands in Cowley County and neighboring regions.

To date, $101,700 has been raised towards the William Newton Hospital Auxiliary pledge. In recognition of the quarter-million dollar gift, the auxiliary will have the opportunity to name the new surgical waiting room.

More than 130 community residents volunteer at the hospital through the William Newton Hospital Auxiliary. Over 60 of those members are active in generating income through fundraisers such as the 50/50 raffle, potato bar feed, Pro-Am Golf Tournament, and the Holiday Market.

Auxiliary President Georgia Larson presented the donation to William Newton Healthcare Foundation Director Annika Morris along with William Newton Hospital Chief Executive Officer Ben Quinton.

At the event, the auxiliary also announced its 2019 officers: John Bredehoft, president; Dorothy Sponsel, president-elect; and Katrina Tamsen, secretary.
