With spring classes for the Golden Tigers program at Cowley College set to begin, 122 people signed up for classes during the kickoff enrollment event held Wednesday in the Earle N. Wright Community Room, according to a news release from the college Thursday.

The Golden Tigers program is offered to community members who are at least 50 years of age or who are fully retired. The program provides educational opportunities that promote social, spiritual, artistic, and physical enrichment to its members through classes, day trips, and workshops deemed of interest to members.

Alumni Relations/Golden Tigers Coordinator Sandy Wiemers was excited to see a large number of both familiar and new faces at the enrollment event.

“This spring, we increased the number of classes offered,” Wiemers said. “Typically in the past, the Golden Tigers offered between 22-24 classes per semester. This semester we offered 37 classes in a variety of areas from Tai Chi to presidential history. We received a lot of great feedback about the new and continued classes we are offering, and many of our classes filled enrollment and went to waitlists.”

Individuals from Arkansas City, Winfield, Geuda Springs, South Haven, and Wellington signed up for classes and/or trips.

“We also heard from many interested people prior to the event that couldn’t attend, and will enroll in the upcoming weeks,” Wiemers said.

Along with the classes offered, the Golden Tigers also have three educational trips planned in the spring. The always popular “Mystery Trip” filled up completely, while the other trips are nearing capacity.

Since 1974, the Cowley College Golden Tigers program has provided unique opportunities and lifelong memories to its participants that inspire a healthier and more vibrant community.
