Annabelle Hummingbird-Burch

Annabelle Hummingbird-Burch, 101, Arkansas City, Kan., died Tuesday, February 12, 2019.

Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday (February 16, 2019) at the Riverview Cemetery of Arkansas City. Funeral services are scheduled for 4:00 p.m. Friday in Tahlequah, Oklahoma.
Annabelle was raised in the Rocky Mountain area and attended Rocky Mountain Grade School before attending Chilocco Indian School. Annabelle returned to Rocky Mountain after her schooling and began her life as a wife and mother.
She and her husband had their homestead near Chilocco where they farmed to make their living, and raised her family before moving to Arkansas City. On the homestead she would sew her children’s clothes by kerosene lamp.
Annabelle also worked in a laundry at a State Hospital in Winfield, Kansas. She would have several relocations in her life which included Newton, Kansas, Afton, Oklahoma and Joplin, Missouri.
Annabelle was kind hearted and wanted to give back to her community.
She donated all of her inherited allotment land back to the Rocky Mountain Community for community use. The Annabelle Hummingbird House (Community Building) and the Johnson Pritchett Baptist Church sit on her allotment land. She would eventually come to live in Tahlequah with family as her health began to fail. Annabelle loved to read and go to garage sales looking and finding little treasures.
Annabelle has been preceded in death by her husbands; son, David Hummingbird; and an infant baby boy; two grandchildren, Mark Hummingbird and Beth Hummingbird; one great grandchild, Casey; one great-great-grandchild, Astra; four siblings, Jennie Mae Martinez, Monroe Johnson, Edgar Lee Johnson, and Edna Catron.
Local arrangements are being made through the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home and Crematory of Arkansas City.
