Winfield Police Arrest Man On Kidnapping, Drug And Battery Charges

A man was arrested in Winfield for aggravated kidnapping, domestic battery and several drug charges Wednesday, according to a press release from the Winfield Police Department Thursday afternoon.

Dalton A. Smith, 24, was arrested in the 1100 block of East Fourth Avenue. According to the WPD, a Winfield woman reported to be the victim of domestic violence. The incidents were reported to have happened Tuesday and Wednesday. After obtaining a search warrant, officers went to the residence to look for evidence of domestic violence. While doing this, the WPD said officers found and confiscated several items leading to narcotic violations.

Neighbors reported to KSOK-NewsCow there was a significant police presence in the area of the residence Wednesday.

He was arrested on 19 charges, with all of them felony offenses with the exception of two — possession of drug-use paraphernalia criminal damage to property. Drug charges include possession cocaine, depressant medication, methamphetamine, hallucinogens and marijuana with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school. He was also charged with bringing contraband into a penal institution.

He is being held without bond inside the Cowley County Jail until he makes his first appearance in court.

Smith has spent time in the Cowley County Jail as recent as February for probation/parole violations, according to a Cowley County Jail official. According to online records kept by the Kansas Department of Corrections, Smith was under “intensive supervision” by community corrections in Cowley County.
