Everett McPherson

Everett Leon McPherson, 91, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Thursday, April 25, 2019 at the Kansas Veterans Home.

Born May 14, 1927 in Blue Eye, Missouri, he was the son of Lee Roy and Bertie C. (Bowman) McPherson. He was raised and received his education in Blue Eye, Hollister, and Branson, Missouri. Everett was drafted in the United States Army in 1945. He proudly served his country in Germany during World War II, receiving an honorable discharge in 1947.

He was united in marriage to Verna Virginia “Jenny” Marler on April 3, 1948 in Harrison, Arkansas. The couple made their first home in Branson, Missouri and moved to Winfield, Kansas in 1949. Everett worked as a farmer as a young man. He made his career as a Machinist and tool and die maker for Gordon and Piatt for 35 years, retiring in 1995.

He was a member of the Praise Cathedral of God Church in Winfield. He enjoyed helping and doing odd jobs for people as well as fishing. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

His family includes his wife Jenny of Winfield; his son Ken McPherson of Winfield; his daughter-in-law Sandra McPherson; his brother Murl McPherson and wife, Carol of Hollister, MO; his four grandchildren, Greg McPherson, Justin McPherson and wife, Laura, Jeff McPherson, and Kimberly Randall and husband, Todd; and four great grandchildren, Kylie and Emily Randall and Barrett and Abram McPherson.

In addition to his parents, Everett was preceded in death by a son David “Rusty” McPherson.

Graveside memorial services and Military Committal Honors will be held on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial has been established in Everett’s name for the Church of God in Winfield. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
