Wanita Brown

Wanita E. Brown, of Wellington, Kansas and formerly of Belle Plaine, KS, passed from this Earth on Sunday, April 7, 2019 at Brookdale Senior Living at the age of 99.

Wanita was the daughter of Earl and Ona (Dittmeyer) Arthur. She was born on June 9, 1919 in Ringwood, Oklahoma. On March 19, 1937, Wanita and Leo W. Brown were united in marriage. They celebrated 70 years of marriage before his passing in 2008.
John and Belle Arthur, Wanita’s grandparents, made the Oklahoma Cherokee Strip Run of 1893 and settled East of Ringwood. Wanita’s parents raised their family on what was part of the strip.
Wanita retired from Cessna Aircraft after many years working in the Upholstery Department. She was a member of the Belle Plaine United Methodist Church.
Wanita was gifted in many ways, but her passion was quilting and crocheting. One of her great joys was making her children and grandchildren a hand crocheted afghan.
Survivors include her children: Robert Brown of Clinton, IA, Sam (Grace) Brown of Riley, KS, Marjorie (Tom) Purdy of Howard, OH, Mary Nugen of Wellington, KS, Doris (Dewayne) Lofton of Shell Knob, MO and Dennis (April) Brown of Conroe, TX; grandchildren: Dean (Annette) Brown of Bakersfield, CA, Nadine (Simon) Blake of New Orleans, LA, Alan (Samantha) Brown of Riley, KS, Annette (Scott) Peare of Leavenworth, KS, David (Collette) Iverson of Howard, OH, Denise (Albert) Ferenbaugh of Danville, OH, Jason (Katie) Purdy of Danville, OH, Jack Purdy of Howard, OH, Natashia (Tony) Nave of Wichita, KS, Bill Nugen of Wellington, KS, Mark (Lisa) Nugen of Derby, KS, Matt (Monica) Nugen of Wellington, KS, Mitchell (Debra) Lofton of El Dorado, KS, Julie (Jim) Haggar of Cave Creek, AZ, Michael (Donna) Brown of Winfield, KS, Adam Brown of Conroe, TX, Katie (Andrew) Rogers of The Woodlands, TX, Joshua Brown of Conroe, TX and Cory Brown of Conroe, TX, 46 great-grandchildren, 31 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Roy Arthur of Carrier, OK; sister, Betty Staton of Moore, OK and brother, Albert (Nilofer) Arthur of Belton, TX.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; brother, Wilmer Arthur; sister, Evelyn Arthur Mack and son-in-law, Budd Nugen.
Funeral services for Wanita will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 11, 2019 at th Wellington Free Will Baptist Church, 802 East 16th Street, Wellington, KS
Interment will follow at the Belle Plaine Cemetery, Belle Plaine, KS
A memorial fund has been established in her loving memory to Wellington Free Will Baptist Church. Contributions may be mailed or left with the funeral home.
