Deadline For City And School Election Filings Is Coming Up June 3

The deadline to file as a candidate in Cowley County for several city and school positions before November’s general election is fast approaching.

Prospective candidates have until June 3 at noon to file inside the county clerk’s office in Winfield.

Winfield Mayor Greg Thompson has refiled for a city commission seat, and so has Ron Hutto, who also currently sits on the commission. Phil Jarvis, who completes the make-up of the board, was elected last year and his term doesn’t expire until January 2022.

Nancy Burger of Winfield has filed to keep her seat on the Cowley County Community College Board of Trustees. Burger was appointed to the position in December 2017 to replace Sid Regnier. Regnier retired from the board due to health issues.

Michael Grahem, Matthew McAllister and Carlton Smail have field to run for Udall City Council. Grahem will run as an incumbent.

David Loewer of Burden has filed to remain on the Central USD 462 Board of Education. James Jirak and Chris Holmes have filed for seats on the Udall USD 463 B.O.E., and Rich Helsel and Jessie Bradley have filed to run for seats on the Dexter USD 471 B.O.E. Helsel is currently the board’s president. Bradley is also a current member.

Ark City, Atlanta, Burden, Cambridge, Dexter and Parkerfield city commission/council positions have yet to see filings, along with a spot each with Winfield USD 465 and Ark City USD 470.
