Norbert Zimmer

Norbert A. Zimmer, of Wellington, Kansas, passed on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at Botkin Care and Rehab in Wellington, Kansas at the age of 92.

Norbert was born the son of Peter A. and Mary L. (Chyma) Zimmer on Sunday, August 15, 1926 in Mitchell, South Dakota.
On October 25, 1947 Norbert and Bernadene Dawkins were united in marriage in Lawrence, Kansas. Together they celebrated 60 of years of marriage before her passing in 2008.
Norbert proudly served his country in both the United States Navy and United States Air Force. He was involved in World War II, Korea War and Vietnam. Norbert retired from the Air Force in 1969. He then began a career as a Civil Engineer for San Bernardino County and retired in 1985.
Survivors include his son, James A. Zimmer (Ralfae) of Burnsville, Minnesota; daughter, Terrill “Terry” S. Zimmer (John Wold) of Riverside, California; sister, Arlene Thompson of Racine, Wisconsin; grandchildren: Steven Zimmer of Reno, Nevada; Matthew Zimmer of Reno, Nevada; Travis Wold of Riverside, California; Brannon Zimmer (Carla) of Valencia, California; Renae Zimmer of Burnsville, Minnesota; Brinna Zimmer (Jerry) of Oakdale, Minnesota, 2 great grandchildren and Turk the tortoise.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and son, Steven D. Zimmer.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, May 3, 2019 with the family present from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Funeral services for Norbert will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 4, 2019 in the chapel of Cornejo|Day Funeral Home, Wellington, Kansas. Pastor James Byers will officiate.
Interment with Military Honors will follow at the Rose Hill Cemetery, South Haven, Kansas.
A memorial fund has been established in his loving memory to the Avenue of Flags. Contributions may be mailed or left with the funeral home.
