Two people were rescued from a flooded semi after midnight Thursday west of the old Chestnut Bridge in Ark City.

Radio traffic indicated emergency responders launched a boat from the West Chestnut bridge, which has been closed for some time. No injuries were reported, however, rushing water against the doors kept them from opening and trapped the two occupants inside the truck until the Ark City Fire Department arrived to free them.

According to Cowley County Sheriff Dave Falletti, the call came in sometime after 12:30 a.m. from the 5000 block of 286th Road in Ark City.

Water was over the dead-end road and a nearby home, camper and two vehicles were overtaken by waters from the Arkansas River.
