As flood waters continue to recede several area roads have been left in need of repair.

Thursday Creswell Township officials were surveying damage and repairing several spots in roads where sinkholes developed. Many spots were described as having a “jelly-like” foundation due to the ground saturation.

Local officials urge motorists to be aware of road closures and to obey road barriers in the region as crews survey damage and begin repairs.

Ark City Emergency Management Coordinator Bob Frazee reported the area has received over 17 inches of rainfall for the month of May — nearly a foot more than the average. Frazee said Ark City has recorded over 28 inches of rain so far for the year and that the average yearly rainfall for the area is 38 inches.
