Robert F. (Bob) McGuigan, 89, of Arkansas City, Kan.,  passed away Friday, May 31, 2019, at South Central Kansas Medical Center.

The family will greet friends 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday (June 7, 2019) evening at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery. Father Patrick Reilley will officiate.
Bob was born on June 18, 1929 in Ponca City Oklahoma, the 2nd of five children, to Frank and Eleanor (Koob) McGuigan. Bob attended Arkansas City High School, Class of 1947, entering the Air Force in December of 1946, at the age of 17. Bob married Madge Coggins on November 12th, 1951 in Arkansas City, Kansas. Bob worked his entire career in the meat packing industry. He started in the loading dock with Mauer Neuer. His personality soon led to a move to sales which resulted in relocation to Oklahoma City, back to Arkansas City, and to Tulsa for 30 years where he retired. While in Arkansas City, Madge worked for the Union State Bank from the mid 1960’s until their move to Tulsa in 1974. Madge and Bob moved back to Arkansas City in 2004, where they were active members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Bob’s customers knew they could count on him to be honest and genuine. When living in Tulsa he would travel past his company’s office in Oklahoma City on a 4-hour trip to Altus Oklahoma because the customer there would buy from his company only if he was their contact. Bob was fun-loving and quick witted. He really enjoyed people and was fond of practical jokes and pranks. His friends and family also knew Bob to be very compassionate and generous. It was hard to get the check if you went to eat with him.
Bob was very attentive to his family. He loved to golf, go to OU football games, and travel. He and the love of his life, Madge, made many trips inside and outside the United States. They often traveled to Norman in the fall to watch OU football games as well as going to many OU bowl games. At one-point years ago Bob organized group trips from Ark City to Norman for OU games. Bob enjoyed socializing. The McGuigan home was often full of family and friends.
Bob is survived by his children Tim McGuigan of Arkansas City, Sharon (Randy) Moore of Shawnee Kansas, and Mark (Kelly) McGuigan of Arkansas City; brother Bill McGuigan of Eugene Oregon; five grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by his wife Madge in 2017; his parents; and 3 siblings.
